It is early in the morning. Mother Yashoda is churning curd and singing in her melodious tone. Her sweet voice and the churning sound are so rhythmic that it seems as if an instrument is being played. Her heart touching song is transmitting in all directions and wobbling everyone. Occasionally mother softens her voice and tries to listen to something, again by makes her melodious voice prominent he starts filling all inert-active with delight. Mother repeats this again and again. When once mother mellows her tone, she clearly hears Kanha’s squeak.
Mother stops churning the curd and runs inside. After reaching the cradle she stands static for few moments and passionately gazes at the baby with tear filled eyes. Then she continuously calls everyone – Hey Rohini! Come fast. Hey baby’s father! You also come fast. Balua! Come and look at your Kanha. All the residents of Gokul, Come! Come!!
On one side mother calls everyone and on the other side she goes on kissing her Kanha .
Slowly each and every resident of Braj gets this news. Everyone is rushing towards Nand Palace. Mother describes about that heart whelming sight again and again, when for the first time she saw the baby squeaking and turning to one side with her own eyes. Mother puts Kanha on the bed again. As everyone wants to witness the baby turning sideways at least once, so in order to fascinate Kanha, they are clapping and singing. On the occasion of baby’s turning sideways for the first time, extraordinary religious ablution festival is organized. All kinds of musical instruments like Cymbal, Tabor, Trumpet, Bowl Lute, Conch etc. is blowing. Baby is continuously squeaking and looking around with His agile widened eyes. He sometimes puts his lotus feet into his mouth using His lotus hand and sometimes squeaks and lumps both his hands and feet in delight. Sometimes he flutters His own lips and very melodiously calls out the word, ‘Gung-Gung’ and sometimes points at something.
Everybody’s eyes are stuck on the baby. Everybody wants to see Kanha turn sideways at least once. But it looks as if in order to increase their delight, the baby is increasing the waiting time. Now the baby looks in all the four directions and tries to turn sideways, but unable to do so, he acts to cry by making ‘uun – uun’ sound. In order to increase His enthusiasm, everybody starts playing musical instruments like Cymbal, Tabor, Trumpet, Bowl Lute, and Conch etc. vigorously. Gopies are singing in their melodious voice in order to galvanize the baby. The baby again squeaks and with much difficulty tries to turn sideways and… O yes! He is able to turn towards the right side. Greeting song plays. Everybody starts spraying perfume, sandal and other aroma liquids on each other. Some of them are showering flowers and some of them are cheering continuously.
Kanha is also very happy as He has been able to turn sideways. He is turning his wide spread eyes in all the directions and looking at all the Gopies present there, sometimes he opens His eyes and sometimes closes them.
Sometimes he flumps both his hands and feet and sometimes laughs with a squeak. Then he lifts up both his hands and babbles ‘Gun -Gun’.
Subsequently seeing mother, he tries to come to her lap. Again suddenly forgets everything, and starts playing with the surrounding toys. Once more after seeing mother, tries to point towards her lap using His hands. When the mother jubilant with delight delays in picking up the baby in her lap, the baby starts crying by closing His eyes and starts flumping His hand and feet.
Mother gets alert and picks up the baby in her lap. Nandanandan starts squeaking as soon as he comes to mother’s lap. Mother kisses the baby’s forehead and says-.’When will my baby grow up? When he will crawl the entire courtyard on knees and make me joyful? When will He hold my fingers to stand, and walk with irregular movements? When will He start saying something in a stammering tone? With eyes filled with water, holding the edge of my sari, When will Gopal ask for something. When will He call me ‘Maiya’, and kiss my cheek.’
On the other hand, Kanha looks at mother as well as Gopies with affection filled eyes. He thumps both His hands again and again. And then in a melodious tone squeaks intermittently.
