BVS Darjeeling (04.10.16 – 08.10.16):

Darjeeling is a charming place for children, to embrace nature in its full glory. Dazzling snow peaks of Kanchenjunga, overlooking the hill town, beautiful tea gardens on the slopes of rolling hills, the orchids, pines and rhododendrons, the cute Himalayan toy train whistling its way through the mountains, imprinted a memory forever. On this occasion children chanted and spread the fragrance of Shri Radhakrishna’s name all over Darjeeling. In the early morning, children used to do aerobics tuned with God’s name. Poojaniya Maa used to teach the children, life’s philosophy with everyday’s correlation. Every day there were music classes where children were provided preliminary knowledge of notes and moods in music. The creativity and talent of participants in art, dance, song and music surprised everyone. Children were taught why daily diary writing is important and how it should be written. During this shivir children also visited zoo, where they met with other animal species and understood the importance of human life. They celebrated Diwali with lights and understood its true importance. Every child made its own greeting cards for Shri Maharaj Ji, loving Ammaji, Poojaniya Maa and Poojya Baba on this pious day. At last the curtain over the winter camp was finally closed but each one had pictured in mind their great responsibility towards oneself, family, and society and for the world.

The Benevolent Tree

Once upon a time, there lived a king, Ranjit Singh. He loved his subject, who loved him back. His justice generosity had gained the hearts of his people. One day, Ranjeet Singh called his ministers."I want to know more about my people. I wish I could understand what problems they face in their day to day life", he announced. "If that is the case, there can be no better way than going among the commons and having a close interaction", a wise minister suggested. "Very well, then." -The king agreed. Therefore, the next day the king went out to tour his empire with his ministers, walking on foot and talking to people. While he was returning to his castle, a stone hit the king, wounding him. The minister felt very angry. He ordered his men to find the culprit. After some time, an old woman was brought in front of the king. Her head was bowed low and she was shaking with fear. The king felt bad for her and decided to give her a chance. After all, he thought, what had made her hurt him. "Dear lady! please don't be afraid. Tell me, why did you throw that stone on me?" -he said.

The old lady felt better hearing these kind words and said, "I am sorry. My son is sick. Our livelihood is dependent on his earnings. He has been ill for long and now we have nothing to eat. While I was passing by, I noticed this fruit tree. I had been throwing stones on this tree, so that I could get some fruits for my son. It was one of those stones, which hit you. I am so sorry, your majesty. Please forgive me." The king heard her patiently. "Leave her", he finally said. After this he gave her some money and assured the old lady that she can always ask for help in this empire. The minister was amazed. "We thought she will be punished. But instead...!" the minister expressed his confusion. "Don't you notice this tree to be so kind? Its gives us shade, wood and fruits. Even though it is hit with stones and its branches are cut for timber, yet it never denies anything. It is always ready to serve others, then why not we? How could I let that old lady go empty handed?" -The king answered.

So children, do you like the story. Can you tell, what message here reminds you the words of Shree Maharaj Ji. This story brings the message that we should be patient and generous like the tree. Whenever we face tough times, we must not get annoyed. Even if we are being criticized, teased, we must not react. We have to learn to be tolerant.

Everyday sit in peace and repeat the words spoken by Maharaj Ji in your mind "We are souls, not body. People, not abuse our soul, and abuse our body. When one worldly body abuses another, there is no harm done to our soul. But if that abuse or criticism makes you angry then your inner spirit gets impure and it will definitely lead to increase the anger of the other person. Remember, these words of Shree Maharaj ji, it will be always useful in our life.

Now! Think about the story, wasn't the tree or the king hurt by the stones thrown? Yet both of them were eager to serve. Although stones hit the tree, it gave back fruits, which satisfied the hunger of the lady and his son. We have to learn kindness from the tree. In the same way even when the king was hurt, he was rational. He noticed the preaching that the tree was giving and then talked to the God residing in his own soul, and did what was right and just.

He made people to understand that He is the God, who has given us live. He upbrings us. He cares for us every time. So we should love our father wholeheartedly. We all should live with brotherhood and never forget our noble father. Once, Guru Nanak Sahib reached a hut of poor carpenter. His name was Lalo. He loved God very much. The carpenter urged Guru Nanak Sahib to stay at his home. On being very pleased by his most humble conduct he stayed at his home for one day. A rich man namely Malik Bhago was also the native of the same village. One day he invited all villagers at feast. Varieties of dishes were prepared. All the Villagers attended the feast. Every one praised Malik Bhago. Malik Bhago was very happy. Mean while he saw his servant. He ordered his servant to find out whether anyone is left to dine. After returning servant informed that one guest who is staying at Lalo's home did not come. Malik Bhago himself went to invite Him and asked- “why did you not come to house to dine?” Guru Nanak Replied “But now I am ready to visit your home.” Many types of dishes were served before Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak called Lalo and ordered him to bring a roti (bread) from his own home. He went home and brought a roti. As Nanak hold and pressed the bread of Bhago, blood started oozing out of the bread; then took Lalo's bread. He pressed it also. Milk started dropping from that. All people were puzzled on seeing this. Nanak addressed Bhago, “See! You have oppressed poor by robbing their wealth, so blood oozed out of your bread but Lalo's bread is of honesty. so milk dropped out of it." Bhago fall down upon Guru Nanak's feet. He bagged pardon. On the very day he took pledge to earn honestly. He left oppressing others forever. Now everyone loved Bhago because he always helped people in their troubles.

Children! Do you know! What Shree Maharaj ji often tells? He says that by remembering the God, you will always feel that He is your rescuer and also the investigator of your all good and evil acts. If you will always remember this no ill-deed will be done by you. Only due to forgetting the God, our good qualities leave and vices come in us. Being offsprings of the God, the huge treasures of good qualities are hidden within us; only the need is that someone should make us acquainted with them. Who can do this? Who is the treasure of all good qualities? - A true saint, A true Guru.
