Most of us are aware of our weaknesses, and we even try to get over them, yet it seems difficult to leave them behind. What we think is, “I constantly try to correct myself, but in the moment of real test I can’t get a grip, I ruin it all.” We get irritated with ourselves, get more determined to try hard, but repeat the same mistake over and over again. Why does this happen?
Let us take the example of anger. Every devotee considers anger to be an obstruction to his devotion. Every day he vows to give up anger, but in vain. Why, what is the reason? We have to comprehend the reason behind this.
To understand which minute physiological system works behind rage, we will have to go through the process of self-assessment. So come, let us think seriously about the path suggested by Shri Maharaj Ji to terminate anger.
Shri Maharaj Ji says that whenever someone says something against us, we get angry. However, does it really matter? Even if someone said something, what is the harm? It is nothing! Nothing until we get angry. The harm caused by those words, but by our own anger. Shri Maharaj Ji says, “Anger appears and complete ruin occurs.” Someone called us uncivilized and we became uncivilized. We are so foolish that by calling us foolish someone proved us foolish and the intelligence that we had, head off from us.
Supreme Lord and saints have guided us by their own norms of conducts. Many examples are set in scriptures and Puranas for our guidance. Shri Maharaj Ji says that we have not even left saints and God of abusing. However, they are never affected at all by it. In the same way, we must not let ourselves being influenced by it. We should never feel bad for that. Wise men pick up whatever is good around them and leave the rest. Sensible people do not lose their sensibility just because some other person is insensible! If Sensible person does the same, then he has definitely turned to an insensible person. In this context, Maharaj Ji says, “If a wise man is called fool by someone and he gets into a fight with him, then both of them are fools. Even those who watch them fight are fools. We take interest, means we are having the fault in ourselves. This is the reason we accept it.
We must analize about our soft spot. You must agree that most of the people read newspaper every day. What type of news is mostly there in newspaper? What do we read about? Robbery! Murders!! Scams!!! We read and then reflect on it. It shows how foul our mind is.
To explain this, Maharaj Ji narrates an incident
‘A person was sleeping in the station. He was about to travel in a train. His servant tried to wake him up saying- Master! Master!! Please wake up, the train has arrived. The person slapped his servant saying- You wake me up! I was sleeping so comfortably. Let the train pass’. This is what we are doing. Time is passing by and we are inactive. We lack awareness. We should always remember the speech of Shree Maharaj Ji, ‘Don’t delay in taking right effort. Do it immediately.’
Here is the very good trick in the words of Shree Maharaj Ji to save ourselves from anger –
‘Suppose someone insults you. At that time, you start saying ‘Radhe Radhe’, so that he leaves the place. As you start thinking on the listened words, consequently you will more feel bad for that. Your work will hamper, inner peace will shatter, and finally your sadhana will be spoiled. There will not be any gain. So, make a firm rule that if talking is unavoidable, and then talk only on the matter related to God. Wherever people are sitting together and you have to be there, start chanting kirtan in low voice. Whenever you have no engagement, you stroll and ramble around. Do not talk. Do not give any advice to anybody. You neither speak, nor listen.
The disease of feeling that we have, is harmful. We increase the disease by the habit of frequent feeling. Making us familiar with our reality, Shree Maharaj Ji says, ‘when everyone is full of infmite vice, then if someone tells something to somebody, what harm he did?’ After saying this, He ends the matter here being very affectionate-
‘When you are relaxing, play tape or sit and start doing kirtan. Show me this in your practice, so that no complain should reach to me. My blood will increase up to Kilogram due to joy when it really turns to be fact. Your harm causes sorrow to me because of affection. You people are bestowed with so much of God’s grace! Now which grace is there to be bestowed more than this?’
